Aktuelle Themen aus dem Forschungsschwerpunkt des Fachgebietes werden bezüglich der notwendigen Grundlagen aufgearbeitet und auf praktische Problemstellungen angewendet.

Achtung

  • Beim ersten Treffen werden alle Projekte des Quality & Usability Lehrstuhls vorgestellt. Das erste Treffen ist verpflichtend für jeden der ein Studienprojekt belegen möchte.
  • Die Einschreibung für die Studienprojekte muss bis zum 29. April erfolgt sein!

     

Themen/Topics

Speaker Morphing to Study Likability

  • Tutor: Benjamin Weiss
  • ECTS: 6 or 9, depending on the yielded effort
  • Participants: 5 to 8

Recorded short sentences are manipulated / morphed to create new stimuli for an auditory experiment studying the first impression of likability, competence and personality. The idea is to morph only certain aspects of speech (separately pitch, duration, spectral characteristics) and to create half and full morphs between two different speakers. You will apply the Matlab toolbox Tandem-STRAIGHT (http://www.wakayama-u.ac.jp) and conduct a listening experiment. Based on your background, the projects protocol will be focusing either on the signal processing part or on the psychological part. Gamification Engine

Nowadays user based and brand loyalty are becoming crucial asset of every digital system dealing by massive end users. By increasing the quantity of digital services, and the fact that users can easily leave from one provider to another, the questions like how to motivate users to user a particular service, stay with it for a longer time, and become more engaged are becoming hot topic in the field of Human Computer Interaction. Gamification, meaning using game elements and game design in non-game context, is becoming popular due to the fact that it is grounded on satisfaction of basic human needs of competence, autonomy and relatedness. Here the goal is to learn from basic human needs and try to satisfy them during usage of system. 

Here our goal is to build a gamification engine that can be used for recording users’ achievements and assign proper bonuses to them based on their status and dynamic rules specified by the game designer. We will work not only on development of software package but also on the integration of the engine in to a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and a Crowdsourcing Platform by designing corresponding game scenarios and rule sets.  

As gamification is about fun and engagement, we are looking for highly engaged students who want to have fun and build something awesome! Candidates needs to have passion for the topic and good programming skills in Java.
