Production, Perception, Interpretation and Modelling of Uncertainty

Location: Ernst-Reuter-Platz 7, 20th Floor, Auditorium 1

SPEAKER: Charlotte Wollermann, Duisburg-Essen University and at Bonn University

ABSTRACT:

This talk deals with the communication of uncertainty in question-answering situations. First, we give an overview of the role of uncertainty in face-to-face communication. We discuss the contribution of audiovisual cues for both speech production and perception. Afterwards, we present our own studies on the role of uncertainty, audiovisual prosody and context for pragmatic focus interpretation and also production.

Furthermore, we refer to previous studies on the modelling of uncertainty in speech synthesis with respect to both the audio and the visual channel. Finally, we present our studies on the modelling and perceiving of uncertainty in articulatory speech synthesis.
