Impact of Various Assistance and Operation Types on the Usability of Mobile User Interface Creation

Assistance methods, like automated input correction, are already an important part of today’s software environment. Especially in the mobile context they can be beneficial for a wide variety of users. To research the influence of assistance, a prototype with two input types (Spinning-wheel and Drag’n’Drop) and three levels of assistance (no, little and full) was implemented and surveyed in a user experiment. The results showed a strong influence of the input types as well as of the levels of assistance. While the users preferred full-assistance in active usage they stated to prefer little-assistance at the end of the experiment. The levels of assistance had a larger effect on the less user-friendly input type (Spinning-wheel).
