System Feedback and Psychological Reactance when Interacting with a Voice Controlled Smart-TV

The introduction of natural language user interfaces in consumer electronics has leveraged the amount of functionalities and the complexity of the tasks enormously. With the help of machine learning algorithms and the processing power of cloud computing, the performance of the speech recognition engine and the dialogue management becomes better and more stable against environmental issues. The system reaction of a user's speech input has typically three parts: showing the user's speech as text, showing system feedback as text and execution of the system feedback. In this work we examine the effects on the usability rating if some parts of the system's reaction are incorrect and the influence of psychological reactance in those effects.
