ABSTRACT:

In this talk we will provide a practical initiation on the development of voice apps for Android devices using the Google Speech API and other speech and language web services.  We will start covering how speech can be used on Android devices outlining the technologies involved, and we will continue coupling the technology for text-to-speech synthesis and automatic speech recognition. We will see how to build simple speech-based interactions to perform actions and how to create chat-like dialogues. To finalize, we will discuss the new opportunities that have appeared with the recent chatbot use rise and will highlight the important challenges they bring.
