ABSTRACT:
We live in a world that technology is essential and everyday life
without some technological device on our hands seems unavoidable. Most
of these devices can be monitored since they are all interconnected.
The topic that is presented in this thesis is related to a very
specific type of technologies, more specifically satellite monitoring
system. The European Space Agency (ESA) in collaboration with CGI
decided to enhance the monitoring systems of the operating rooms to
increase productivity and decrease the error margin in the future. For
this reason, they started a project called Ground Monitoring and
Management System (GMMS) and this thesis is part of it.
In
this thesis, a system consisting of three different alarm type
interfaces is presented with the goal of identifying which of the
three alarm schemes could benefit operators in acting faster in the
event when a critical alarm strikes and on the other hand not being
completely disturbed by unimportant alarm notifications. The procedure
how the three alarm interfaces are evaluated is going to be explained.
Finally, in the discussion section, the results of this research are
going to be reflected upon to find out which one could be potentially
the ideal system based on the feedback gathered.
