Delay Sensitivity: Scenario based QoE analysis of a game

Cloud-based online games have witnessed rapid growth in the number of users embracing these games, but online games can become frustrating for a user due to the network impairment issues like packet loss and network delay associated with online games. Various studies are indicating that delay is an important factor in influencing the QoE of an online game, and many studies have also pointed out the impact of latency on a game is genre specific. Even though a lot of studies indicate that latency tolerance of a game depends on the game itself or genre of the game, there is still a lack of understanding on how various scenarios within a game can influence the tolerance of a game towards delay. This thesis aims to study the impact of delay on quality of experience of a racing game where users experience is measured for delays on different scenarios within the same game. The work done in the thesis presents that delay sensitivity of a game is not entirely genre or game specific. Instead, it also depends on particular characteristics within the game.​
