Nina Valkanova (currently at T-Labs)

Nina will present a collection of past projects as well as recent research, which illustrate her work in interactive technologies and new media for the past several years. From small-screen interface design, to large-scale interactive visualizations, each project aims to create an engaging user experience, by exploring the intersection between scientific and creative design knowledge and practice.

Nina Valkanova is an interaction and interface design researcher and currently a visiting researcher at the Mobile and Physical Interaction Group, led by Joerg Mueller. She holds Master degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, from the University of Technologies in Darmstadt, Germany. During and after her studies, she has been involved in  interface design, computer graphics, mixed reality and new media arts at the Center for Computer Graphics (Darmtadt, Germany), Ars Electronica Future Lab (Linz, Austria), the SPECS and GTI research groups of the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain). Her dissertation research focuses on the design of digital displays and visual interfaces located within shared urban spaces. In particular, she is interested in experimenting and conceptualizing principles for meaningful experience with information, by designing and evaluating user-generated visualization displays in public and semi-public environments.
