ABSTRACT:
Messaging apps are extremely successful on smartphones. For example, WhatsApp claims to have over 300 Million users and to process over 30 Billion messages a day in August 2013. In addition to traditional text messages, current messaging apps allow to exchange files or location data. Therefore, access of adversaries to the app in case the device gets lost or stolen has become more risky. In this thesis, a continuous authentication approach in the context of messaging apps on smartphones is presented, which is based on the user's activities and the user's touch screen interaction style while using the app. I will show, that the definition of application or user specific standard and non-standard behavior can help to implement continuous authentication.
