Measurement of Speech Intelligibility on Narrow and Wideband Transmissions

LOCATION: Auditorium 1, TEL 20, Ernst-Reuter-Platz 7, 20th floor

Date/Time: 09.11.2015, 14:15-15:00

SPEAKER: Martin Horst (TU Berlin)

The evolution of telephony from conventional to packet based lines made possible to transmit speech at an extended bandwidth, improving speech quality. As especially some consonants have much information at lower and higher frequencies, one can assume that speech intelligibility is also increased. To evaluate that, a listening test with natural speech segments was performed to measure and compare intelligibility in German on four narrow band, three wideband, two superwideband and an unprocessed condition (full-band).
