Study of the impact of wireless degradations on speech quality
In communication systems, there are many factors that can impact the speech quality, especially in mobile environments, in which the transmitted signal passes through a wireless channel.
In wireless communications, several degradation types occur, such as obstacles between the transmitter and receiver originating different phenomenon, such as multipaths, signal power variations, path delays, among others. All these impairment factors cause fading in wireless channels, and the nature of them can be different of those happened on wired networks. In this context, the main objective of this project is to evaluate how different fading channel models and different wireless parameters impact on the speech signal. Also, some techniques used to improve the robustness of communication systems are evaluated, such as spatial diversity and error detection and correction codes.
