SPEAKER: Patrick Tobias
Designing interactive applications for Media Façades is a
challenging task. Architectural sized large-scale screens can result
in unbalanced installations, and meaningful interaction is easily
overshadowed by the drastic size of the display. In this talk we
reflect on urban technology interventions by analyzing their spatial
configuration in relation to the structuring of interaction. We
outline basic categories and offer a new terminology to describe these
interactive situations designed for the built environment, which
bridges existing research in architecture, urbanism, social sciences,
anthropology and computer science.
Right now - I am a PhD Student in the field of HCI / Urban Computing. Before that, I used to work as a freelance software developer creating medical software for health analysis devices. In my spare time, I usually create Media-Interventions and Situated-Technology for urban environments, which can be seen as technology probes for my research interest. My projects are usually positioned in the crossfire of art, technology and urban life.
