Subjective Determination Of Audio Quality In Crowdsourcing Environment

Audio assessment is defined in the ITU-T Recommendation P.800 for Lab situations. This implies high cost and time effort to receive good findings. What if crowdsourcing environments could be used for audio assessments? This could reduce costs and expenditure of time and still yield large scale data sets.

The concept of this thesis was to find out what must be recommended for using a crowdsourcing environment for audio assessment. For this purpose, participants were invited to attend either audio assessments in quiet lab conditions (as recommended in ITU-T P.800) or handle audio assessments in crowdsourcing environments (simulated “noisy” lab and real crowdsourcing environments like cafeteria and public transport). The participants evaluated degraded audio files that had shown variance in MOS-Values in an earlier study. Those were to be compared with the new findings.
