Today’s Digital market has grown up to such an extent that not only the end-user needs to find the product/service usable, but there is a major challenge in retaining the user base. The motivation of the users needs to be kept on track for them to be engaged in the platform under consideration. One of the solutions that can be implemented in order to motivate the online community is gamification. Gamification uses the fun property of games in non-game contexts. This property can be carefully designed after studying the concepts in gamification and its effects on user motivation in order to realize an effective gamification design. Thus, the goals of retaining the users in a particular platform can be accomplished. The work of this thesis focuses on building an universal gamification engine MVP that can be applied in an e-learning scenario for student motivation, or in a crowd sourcing scenario for engaging the crowd workers. The study of the theories on human motivation, gamification as a concept, followed by the design and development of the Gamification Engine back-end prototype was accomplished.
