Speech Recognition under Transmission Channel Impairments
LOCATION: Auditorium 1, TEL, Ernst-Reuter-Platz 7, 20th floor

ABSTRACT:
Automatic speech recognition systems commonly require voice transmission over wireless networks to servers which compute the recognition task. These voice communication channels may present different impairments that affect the quality of the transmitted speech and thus the speech recognition performance. This talk discusses the various effects of channel bandwidth limitation, codec, and bitrate on automatic speech recognition. Experiments show a performance improvement when wideband instead of narrowband signals are employed to train and test the system, yet advantages with the use of super-wideband signals are not manifested.
