ABSTRACT:

The goal of this master thesis is to compare the user experiences between Virtual and Augmented Reality environments. In order to do so, two game versions with the same game-mechanics were designed and developed. One for each environment respectively. This thesis also presents historical development of the Virtual experiences and examines the concept of the Usability and its relation to the User Experience. Additionally, it is observed that there are certain differences between the researchers that are coming from the different scientific backgrounds. Scientists that are coming from the humanistic fields often apply qualitative methods which leave lots of space for interpretation. However, this study applied quantitative methods where participants (n=26) played both game versions one after the other and also took the questionnaires before and after playing. Obtained results indicate that usability goals between the two environments were almost identical whereas some differences that describe hedonic qualities do exist, namely Novelty and Sensory Immersion which were significantly more expressed in the Augmented Reality environme
