Computer-based Usability Analysis

ABSTRACT:

In this talk, the tool CogUA (Cognitive Usability Analysis) for computer-based usability evaluation of the Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) is presented. Results based on a first prototype implementation are discussed. The tool is designed to support the development of GUIs for an intuitive and safe operation of special-purpose machines. The modules of CogUA are based on computer vision for automated recognition of GUI elements and data mining for identification of use cases. The tool also includes a link to the cognitive architecture ACT-R to simulate selected user interactions.

BIO:

Karen Insa Wolf received her Ph.D. from the Institute of Geodesy, Leibniz University of Hanover in 2007. From 2008 to 2009 she developed software for driver assistance systems within Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH. After completion of the development and the implementation of a speed based curve warning system she worked as technical consultant and reviewer at the Innovationszentrum Niedersachsen Strategie und Ansiedlung GmbH, Hanover. In 2014 she joined the project group Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology of the Fraunhofer IDMT in Oldenburg and is responsible for the application area "Computer-based Usability Analysis".
