Topic 1: Gamification (Babak Naderi, Steven Schmidt, Saman Zadtootaghaj: Auditorium 1)
The question how to motivate individuals to use and keep using a particular service by increasing their engagement is a hot topic in the field of Human Computer Interaction. Gamification, the application of game elements and game design in a non-game context, is becoming popular due to the fact that it is grounded on satisfaction of basic human needs of competence, autonomy and relatedness
In this seminar the goal is to learn and understand from entertaining games what aspects can be transformed to a gamified system, in different domains like work, sport healthcare, and how to evaluate the success of gamified experiences.
As gamification is about fun and engagement, we are looking for highly motivated students who want to have fun and make awesome research! Candidates needs to have passion for the topic.

- Quality of Experience in gaming
- Influencing factors
- Motivation and User Classification
- Self-determination theory
- Entertainment games, gamified systems and serious gaming
- Gamification in different domains
- Evaluation of gaming services and gamified systems
Tasks and additional Information:
- The number of participants is limited to 15
- Each participant will first work on a chosen topic including literature research, presentation and report
- In the second part of the seminar a paper prototyping of a gamified system (e.g., fitness or healthcare domain) will be developed in a group
Topic 2: Text-To-Speech Technology (Benjamin Weiss: Auditorium 2)
This course is a lecture with additional hands-on exercises on text-to-speech technology. Homework will be reading of excerpts from Taylor (2009): Text-to-Speech Synthesis, Cambrige. and assignments related to the exercise parts. Major topics
