Biography
Michael Rohs is a senior research scientist with Deutsche Telekom Laboratories at TU Berlin.
His primary research interest is in mobile and pervasive user interfaces that support people in their everyday activities. This ranges from designing interfaces that fit onto tiny mobile device screens or large public displays, through developing interaction techniques that can effectively be used on the move, to the integration of physical and virtual aspects of the user's current environment. Michael developed a visual code system for camera phones that enables gesture-based interactions with passive media as well as electronic displays.
In 2005, he obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from ETH Zurich, Switzerland. From 2000 to 2005, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Pervasive Computing, headed by Prof. Friedemann Mattern. In 2000, he received a Diplom in Informatik from Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany, and in 1998 an MS in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA.
He is a member of the ACM, the IEEE and the Gesellschaft für Informatik
