Stefan received M.Sc. degrees in Psychology at the University of Giessen (2013) and in Human Factors at the Technical University of Berlin (2016). Since February 2017, he is working as a scholarship PhD student at the Quality and Usability Lab.

Abstract The P3 component of the event-related brain potential (ERP) is promoted as an indicator of perceived change in speech quality. However, previously identified effects of quality change on P3 might actually be traced back to modulations in earlier portions of the ERP signal, evoked by physical variability between test stimuli. The present study introduces a rigorous control procedure to isolate late ERP signal portions by eliminating such physical stimulus confounds. Due to successful removal of auditory evoked activity, observed quality-related ERP signal modulations can be attributed to P3 with higher validity. The implemented control procedure promises to form an essential part of future experimental designs in psychophysiological assessment of multimedia quality.
